Nexeon launches pilot plant near Oxford

Nexeon has relocated to the former AEA Technology Battery Research & Development facility at Culham, near Oxford, to launch a pilot plant developing Nexeon’s unique silicon anode technology.

The pilot plant closely represents a commercial manufacturing facility, and allows an accurate understanding of the processes and costs associated with making anode materials. The equipment and facilities are specifically designed for battery electrode development, with dry rooms and labs covering 1400m².

The site provides a large scale mixer, coating and calendaring machines, as well as pilot scale soft pouch and 18650 battery assembly lines. These facilities and equipment enable the production of test Li-ion batteries and dramatically accelerate material and anode formulation development.

The new site will enable Nexeon to continue its technical progress in proving the viability of its silicon anode technology in terms of capacity and cycle life.
